A Fantastic Weekend

Food Festival

I hope, like me, you had a great time at the Food Festival over the weekend. The weather was transcendent and the crowds flocked to the town to take in a truly wonderful atmosphere. I’m sure everyone would agreethat it was a superbly organised event and special thanks must go to the Heritage Foundation and to Inspired Event Management for all their efforts inbringing what, I’m sure we all hope, will be an annual Festival.

I hope too that this is just the catalyst for you all to feel confident enough to return to Letchworth more regularly. With the townjust a whisker away from having the fountains switched on and the road re-opened I’m quietly confident that people will happily get back into the routine of supporting the town. There was a real buzz in the air over the weekend and with new shops coming into the town as we speak and others moving into new sites there is a real sense that we have turned the corner and Letchworth Garden City can move forward un-hindered.

We have loads more events lined up over the coming weeks. This Saturday we have The Settlement adult education centre in town to show some of their fantastic range of adult classes. Set up over 90 years ago the Settlement moved into the famous ‘Skittles Inn’ back in 1925 and have beenlargely self-funding ever since.

They have a broad range of classes in arts, crafts, languages, academic disciplines and fitness. The Settlement will be in Leys Square on Saturday demonstrating just a fraction of these courses so why not take a look a see if there is something to suit you.

The fun does not stop. It continues on June 4 to 6 when we have a newcar show in town, sponsored by The Comet, and on June 12 with our Family Fair. Children’s rides, stalls and the mandatory candy floss!

It’s going to be a lovely summer

See you soon.
