Food Festival sets out its stall

stall holder

Letchworth Garden City Town Centre is set to become a food lover's paradise as the town prepares for the forthcoming Food and Garden Festival.

Taking place on the weekend of the 19th and 20th May the town centre will become home to almost 60 stallholders selling locally reared meat, home baked cakes and cookies, homemade preserves, speciality cheeses, oils, spicy condiments and sauces, cider and beer as well as local fruit and vegetables.

Don't eat them all at once!

Congratulations to our lucky winners of our recent Easter competitions, Michael Paddon and Louise Green.

In a double prize giving youngster Michael Paddon, aged 10 from Letchworth, collected his huge jar of sweets from Town Centre Manger Lee Boswell after providing the closest guess in our 'Guess the number of sweets in a jar' competition. Check out how close Michael got below.

Blunts Bakery closes

Blunts Bakery closes

On Saturday 7th April we said goodbye to one of the best loved shops on our high street, Blunts Bakery, which is due to turn off it’s ovens for the very last time. Maurice & June have ran the shop in The Arcade for an amazing 54 years. Maurice had worked there even longer.

Eggs-cellent time had at Easter family fun day

Egg painting

Saturday 7th April saw the town centre's Leys Square come alive with music, craft stalls, face painting, and mini fun fair rides. The talented Mr Speaker and the Right Honourable Gentlemen braved the less than Spring like conditions to knock out a great live set of motown and funky classics to keep shoppers entertained while our favourite face painters Face to Face were kept busy creating fantastical fairies, multi coloured tigers and other colourful creations for eager children.

Letchworth Food & Garden Festival returns

Letchworth Food & Garden Festival returns

It’s time to ready, steady, cook as the Letchworth Town Centre Partnership brings back the Letchworth Food  Festival for 2012 and this time we're going green fingered too with the addition of a garden theme.

After a year’s hiatus this popular event returns to Letchworth Town Centre on May 19th and 20th offering up a tasty selection of market stall holders, cookery demonstrations, food concessions and free entertainment for all the family.

On street car parking

letchworth sign post

Many of the residential streets surrounding the town centre have controlled resident parking schemes to prevent all day parking. Yet if you don't mind taking a short stroll especially now that the weather is warming up and the evenings are getting lighter, and go outside the controlled parking zones you can find free all day on street parking within just a 10 to 15 walk of the town centre.

£100,000 to make a difference

Leys Square

If you had £100,000 to make a difference to a town centre what would you do? This is the question being posed to high streets up and down the country by the Department for Communities and Local Government who have announced a £1 million fund for ‘Town Teams’ to run a number of high street pilots. Applications are now being sought to find 12 towns of varying size, demographics and geography to run these, as yet, un-set pilots.
