Festival Kick Off

Festival Kick Off

This Saturday sees the start of the Letchworth Festival which is rapidly becoming a jewel in Letchworth’s crown. Amazingly it’s only the second year of the festival and yet there are over 100 different activities scheduled over the next two weeks.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked alongside the Festival Steering Committee and the efforts this merry band have made in getting the Festival to this high level is truly remarkable. They thoroughly deserve all the praise I believe is bound to come their way.

If you haven’t got a copy of the Festival programme you can still get one from the Tourist Office in Station Road or David’s Bookshop in Eastcheap. Alternatively, visit the Letchworth Festival here.

Picking out some highlights from the forthcoming weeks I must start with the Dance Festival in Leys Square on Saturday 26 and the Town Crier competition at midday on Saturday on the Broadway by Morrison’s. Both events promise to offer something a bit different to your day and so come along and enjoy both.

Toby Litt is reading and signing his new book, ‘King Death’, on Monday 28 June from 7:30pm. This is a ticketed event, but ticket price is refunded when you purchase the book. Tickets are available from David’s Bookshop or the Tourist Information Centre.

The Arena Tavern has a music night on Thursday 1 July starting from 8pm, and on Friday 2 July there is a Wine Tasting evening at the Broadway Hotel. The LALG wine groups have come together to present 20 world class wines, talks by Chris Unger from Yalumba and John Crabtree from Bibendum, and a selection of food from local suppliers. The evening starts at 7pm and tickets are just £10 and can be purchased from either The Broadway Hotel or The Tourist Information Centre.

This is just a small taste of what’s to come over the next few weeks and with the World War II celebrations over the 3 and 4 July and The Letchworth Street Fest on 10 July to look forward to, it’s a heady mixture for local people and visitors to enjoy. I hope I see you there. If so, say hello.

See you soon.
